Who to Contact with Questions or Concerns
What should your teenager do if they have a problem, question or concern about their job?
As an adult you play an important role in encouraging your teen to deal with the situation. Providing them with your support will help give them more confidence.
First encourage them to talk to their supervisor about the problem. It is a good idea to keep a written record of what was discussed, who they talked to, what they talked about, and when they met.
If the job is related to their school program, talk to their teacher and let them know about the situation.
What if your teenager is not comfortable talking to their supervisor about the problem?
If the problem is related to:
work hours
wages
having to do prohibited types of work

Reporting Work-Related Injuries and Accidents
What if your teen is hurt or injured on the job?
Make sure they inform their supervisor. Their employer should provide them with an accident report that they will need to fill out and turn in. Make sure to write down when and where the accident happened so they don't forget important information that will be needed for the report.
If their employer does not provide them with an accident report form, call the Washington State Dept. of Labor and Industries (link) at 1-800-547-8367 and they will send you the form.
Why it is important to fill out an Injury Claim/accident report?
By filling out an injury claim/accident report it protects your teen by recording that their injury was related to their job. Washington has a program in place to protect them if they get hurt from a job-related injury or illness.
If they are unable to work because of a job related injury or illness, they may be paid a percentage of their regular wage. This program may also pay for other costs related to their injury such as doctor and hospital bills related to the treating the injury.
